River City Skippers Name Lake Krehel as General Manager

Elizabeth City, NC — The River City Skippers are proud to announce the hiring of Lake Krehel as the organization’s new General Manager, ushering in an exciting new chapter for baseball in Elizabeth City and the surrounding region.

A native of Elizabeth City, Krehel brings a deep-rooted passion for the game and a strong connection to the local baseball community. Having grown up in the area, he understands firsthand the rich tradition and pride that baseball holds across northeastern North Carolina.

“I am most excited to contribute to the continued success of college baseball in the area,” said Krehel. “Elizabeth City, as well as surrounding cities, has a rich heritage and deep roots in the sport of baseball, and I am excited to have been given the opportunity to continue growing the sport in our community.”

Krehel is no stranger to the local baseball scene. Over the past six years, he has served in various coaching roles with a collegiate team in Elizabeth City, building strong relationships with players, coaches, and fans alike. His experience and leadership have made a lasting impact, and he now steps into the front office ready to elevate the Skippers both on and off the field.

“Fans can expect to see high-energy, well-rounded, and competitive college baseball,” Krehel said. “We also want to build a strong connection between the team and the community through various public relations opportunities.”

Krehel’s journey in baseball began right here in Elizabeth City. A graduate of Northeastern High School (Class of 2011), he continued his playing career at Elizabeth City State University from 2011 to 2014. During his time on the field, he contributed as both a pitcher and first baseman, showcasing versatility and dedication that continues to define his approach to the game today.

His lifelong love of baseball ultimately led him to this opportunity.

“I was drawn to this role through my strong love of the game,” Krehel added. “When the opportunity came to continue contributing to the sport in our community, I knew it was something I couldn’t pass up.”

With Krehel at the helm, the River City Skippers are poised to strengthen their presence in Elizabeth City while continuing to provide a competitive and community-focused baseball experience.
